Big wind

The worst conditions I ever played in was our final round on our Ireland trip in 2017. We’d avoided significant weather for the entire trip until the final day. That day I learned about Irish weather. After navigating the Ring of Kerry in less-than-ideal conditions and eyes closed, we arrived at Waterville where the conditions seemed worse. After convincing the caddies to take the day off, we ventured out from undercover. Four at a time.

The first hole was straight down wind. I made birdie. The second hole I hit my tee shot over 400 yards and made par. From there it was a blur. Soaked to the bone and smiling, it was the best 42 I’ve ever shot. Our driver noticed a wind gauge in the clubhouse and reset it prior to us playing. It hit 63 mph.

We could’ve stayed in the clubhouse. But we played instead. And I’m glad we did. It’s the memory I think about most from that trip.
