The Big Shake

I did 11 years as a golf pro at Stillwater Country Club in Minnesota. SCC is an incredibly unique place with many great traditions and plenty of characters. One of the best, long standing, traditions is the “Dice Deuce”. Simply put, you get to shake a dice if you make a gross 2 throughout the round. (Don’t even think about touching that dice with a net 2). Everyone else in your group is then responsible for paying you what you shake. A great game to play that keeps your worst rounds still salvageable with a “deuce” on the final par three of the day.

In our regular 4some this year, we instituted The Big Shake. A dice was purchased with the numbers 1-20. You get awarded the “Big Shake” when you make an eagle on a par 4. The inaugural season of this resulted in 3 Big Shakes within the group.

Joy for 1 means fear for the other 3. The Big Shake is full of confidence, spite, glory, doom and of course...DRINKS.

Here’s to wishing you well on your dice shakes in 2022.
